Privacy Policy

App: Readio — Offline Reading AppEffective: April 19, 2026Contact: support@readio.dev

Readio is built on a simple principle: your reading is your business, not ours.

We designed Readio to work completely offline, without accounts, without tracking, and without sending your data anywhere. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what data the app touches, where it stays, and what we never do with it.

1

Information We Collect

We Do NOT Collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
  • Your location
  • Your device's contacts, camera, or microphone
  • Browsing history or reading habits
  • Any analytics or usage statistics sent to our servers
  • Payment or financial information

None of this data ever leaves your device. There are no Readio servers. There is no cloud. There is no account.
2

Network Activity

Readio is an offline-first app. The only time it makes a network request is when you explicitly ask it to, in these two cases:

a) Fetching Article Preview

When you paste a URL, Readio makes a direct request from your device to that website to fetch the page content (title, excerpt, thumbnail). This is equivalent to opening a browser tab — Readio acts as a client, the website you are visiting sees a standard HTTP request from your device. Readio itself receives nothing from this request; the content goes directly to your device's local storage.

b) Downloading Article / PDF Content

When you tap Download, Readio fetches the full content of the article or PDF directly from its source website to your device. This is a direct device-to-website connection. No Readio server is involved.

We have no backend, no API, and no intermediary server that ever sees your content or your requests.
3

Third-Party Services

Content You Choose to Save

When you save a URL, your device connects directly to that third-party website. That website's own privacy policy governs what they log (e.g., your IP address, as is standard for any web request). Readio has no control over and takes no responsibility for third-party websites' data practices.

Text-to-Speech (Listen Feature)

Readio's listen feature uses your device's built-in Text-to-Speech engine (provided by your operating system — Android TTS or iOS Speech framework). Article text is processed entirely on-device. No audio or text is sent to Readio or any third party.

Offline Translation (64 Languages)

The translation feature uses on-device translation models that run entirely locally. No text is uploaded to any translation server. Your articles are not read by any external service.

Offline AI (Ask Anything)

Readio's AI assistant runs a locally-installed language model on your device. Your questions and article content are processed entirely on your hardware. Nothing is sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any other AI provider.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

Readio does not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any other analytics SDK. We do not track which articles you read, how long you spend reading, or how you navigate the app.

4

Data Storage & Retention

All data Readio creates lives in your device's local storage under the folder you configure (default: /Documents/Readio on iOS, internal storage on Android).

You are in full control:

  • Delete individual articles from the reading list at any time
  • Clear the app’s cache from Settings → Storage → Clear Cache
  • Uninstall the app to remove all data permanently

Readio does not retain any copies of your data. When you delete something, it is gone.

5

6

Children's Privacy

Readio does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (US) or 16 (EU/UK). Since we collect no personal data from any user, Readio is safe for users of all ages. If you believe your child has somehow provided data to us, please contact us at support@readio.dev — though given our no-collection architecture, this is technically not possible.

7

Your Rights

Because we collect no personal data, many data-rights requests (access, correction, deletion, portability) are handled entirely by you — through the app itself or by uninstalling it.

However, if you are located in the EU/EEA/UK and have questions about GDPR compliance, or in California and have questions about CCPA compliance, you may contact us at support@readio.dev. We will respond within 30 days.

Under GDPR and CCPA, you have the right to:

  • Know what data is held about you — answer: none on our servers
  • Request deletion of your data — uninstall the app; all data is gone
  • Object to processing of your data — we do not process your data
  • Data portability — all your data is already on your device
8

Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device, security is primarily governed by your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption at rest, etc.). Readio does not transmit data, so there are no server-side security risks. We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date.

9

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this Privacy Policy (for example, if we add a new feature that changes our data practices), we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • Post the new version at the same URL
  • Notify you via an in-app notification on next launch

We will never make changes that reduce your privacy without explicit notice.

10

Open Source & Transparency

We believe privacy should be verifiable, not just promised. If you have technical questions about how Readio handles data, you are welcome to contact us for clarification.
